Position DescriptionValiant is seeking a Lead Central Utility Plant (CUP) Operator who operates and maintains one or more systems which provide the medical facility with such services as heat, air-conditioning (cool, humidify, dehumidify, filter, and circulate air), refrigeration, steam or high-temperature water or electricity.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Has management experience to provide leadership and training for the maintenance technicians. Directs and coordinates activities of technicians in performing tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system or systems. Tours work areas, analyzes reports and proactively develops solutions prior to an escalation in problems. Works with PM/CA and QCM/SSHO to develop performance standards, counsel employees on performance, and make formal and informal performance appraisals. Maintain and provide a refrigerant management plan as stated IAW EPA guidelines (will be CFC certified). Will oversee building 392 plant operations and maintenance technicians; will attend pre-construction and work plan or design coordination meetings, as required. Will respond to afterhours emergency calls as needed. Performs troubleshooting, replacement, repair and preventative maintenance of HVAC/R and building automation systems. As boiler operator will perform touring duties; monitor the starting, stopping, and loading of equipment; check all operating equipment in the plant; record operating data in appropriate logs; provide adjustments at central control panel in response to change in operating conditions; and perform and record boiler water chemical test. As BAS Operator, will monitor all systems during normal hours (). Duties involve: observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet demands for the service provided; recording in logs various aspects of the system's operation; keeping the engines, machinery and equipment of the system in good working order. Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment. Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication. Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders, and gauges, and cleaning or replacing burners or other components. Oils and lubricates equipment. Performs water filtration tests and pours chemical additives, such as water softener, into treatment tank to prevent scale buildup and to clean boiler lines. Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operators' logbook. Will have experience and knowledge in troubleshooting, repair, programming, and other corrective maintenance and minor modifications on all systems and equipment indicated above (HVAC/R, BAS). Working experience in TJC, OSHA, NFPA, EPA, & other related codes & standards and all employees must comply with all applicable ordinances, laws, or other requirements imposed by other state agencies, courts, or certain localities. Will be licensed/certified by the appropriate state for his/her specific trade. A copy of the state/federal license or certification will be provided to the contract administrator and COR on site. Personnel handling refrigerants will be certified IAW EPA 608 refrigerant rules specified by the clean air act & possess a Universal CFC license. As BAS Operator will be OEM qualified and trained on all energy management and SCADA systems.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Will be sufficiently educated, trained, and experienced with a minimum of (3) years in required disciplines to provide proficient O services and maintain the facilities IAW Valiant and government standards.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
