Director, Accounting - Real Estate

This newly created Director, Accounting role will report to the Controller while working closely with the executive team, senior management, peers and subordinates. This position will have oversight of accounting and reporting activities of various entities within the Company; including Real Estate and non-Real Estate entities with a focus on monthly-close, accounts receivable, unusual transactions and process improvement. The Director will oversee the analysis, preparation, and reporting of GAAP compliant company financials, maintain a system of accounting records, and set of controls designed to mitigate risk, while enhancing the accuracy of the Companys reported financial results.

Your Wonderful Purpose:

Provide leadership of a high functioning accounting operations across multiple business entities such as: Corporate, Real Estate, Sales (in-house) and other areas as required
Possess advanced knowledge in GAAP financial statements, GAAP reporting (categories and disclosures)
Review all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliations
Perform technical accounting on real estate acquisitions and sales, intercompany transactions, ASC 842 and ASC 606 amongst others as applicable
Liaise with the Tax, Legal and Treasury Departments to ensure that transactions are appropriately accounted for and reported on for compliance
Manage external international accounting teams to provide timely and detailed financial reporting
Maintain and document knowledge of our accounting software to streamline processes and data management
Support the annual budget process and updates to financial forecasts
Track KPIs to balance workload while better utilizing individual strengths and providing opportunities for growth
Establish and implement short-and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for the Accounting & Finance department
Identify and implement manual and systemic controls to reduce risk
Prepare, coordinate, and conduct audit activities
The Wonderful You:

CPA required
Strong working knowledge of GAAP
9+ years of experience, including 5+ years of public accounting and 2+ years of corporate accounting, Big 4 experience preferred
Real Estate industry expertise preferred (development and commercial)
Knowledge of Yardi, Oracle and Hyperion (HFM), as well as experience with an ERP implementation a plus
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with people at all levels across the organization with a team mentality
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and to research and resolve complex accounting issues.
Proven problem-solving skills -- defining problems, collecting relevant data, drawing valid conclusions, and recommending corrective action
Highly organized and capable of managing simultaneous projects and deadlines, making request and setting due dates for timely submission for review
Proven ability to manage and motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
